American aid for Ukraine close to running out | LBC

Iain Dale pronounces US Congress' plans to block further funding to Ukraine as 'scandalous' in conversation with Ukrainian MP, Maria Mezentseva, who explains Ukrainian fears as US political divisions look to affect military support.

Before Christmas, the Senate blocked a supplemental funding bill that included financial aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan as well as provisions aimed at bolstering border security. 

Ahead of the vote, President Biden delivered an address urging Congress to pass the bill, warning that a failure to act would only benefit Russian President Vladimir Putin in the war against Ukraine.

Much of the opposition to continuing Ukrainian support comes from small sectors of US Republicans, who are manoeuvring for policies around tougher border security, immigration and asylum measures at the US-Mexico border.

Others focus on ideological issues, arguing that Ukraine aid 'puts America last'.

Support for Ukrainian assistance also seems to be diminishing among the broader American electorate.
