2003 Rogers Rams at Holland Springfield Blue Devils - Ohio High School Football

8/22/2003 - Springfield gets some revenge on Rogers and Fred Davis (All-Ohio wide receiver and future All-American tight end at USC) who torched them with big plays the previous two years. Great special team play helped Springfield build an early lead. Patrick Miller and Mike Bekier converged twice on the Ram's punter to tackle him deep in Ram's territory. Craig Mossing hit a 31-yard field goal to put the Devils up 3-0. After the second special teams gaffe, Steve Harvey hit Mossing on a 20-yard TD strike. The Devils continued their spectacular special teams play when Hans Vetter returned a punt 57 yards for a TD with 7:40 left in the half.
Springfield's defense led by standouts Ric Gonzalez, Nick Johnson and Taylor Taube contained Davis to just 75 yards receiving and 14 yards rushing. Davis did have two touchdowns however. Harvey also connected with Maurice Hawkins for a 24-yard TD reception. Taube, who was also a star tailback, finished the day with 85 yards rushing on nine attempts including a 46-yard TD run.
