Time for the ultimate BYD Seal winter test, to find out if this EV is truly winter-proof! In this ultimate stress test, I take the BYD Seal out in harsh -15°C Finnish winter conditions to answer three critical questions: How fast is the defrosting? What is the real-world highway consumption? And most importantly... does 1.5 hours of battery pre-heating actually guarantee fast charging at 400 kW Ionity station?

I drive the Seal 120km on highways and icy backroads with my studdless winter tyres to verify the consumption in this cold weather. I also test the detrosting of windows, how the door handles work when frozen, and discuss how the ELKA (Emergency Lane Keeping Assist) - after the latest OTAs - now handles the snowy roads when lane markings are often poorly visible.

Finally, I arrive to an Ionity 400 kW (800V) charger after a massive 90-minute pre-conditioning session. The start of the charging curve is very promising, but then something unexpected happens: the power suddenly COLLAPSED to just 4kW! Was this just a temporary glitch, a charger issue, or an LFP battery failure?
