[4KHDR] Driving in Croatia: D414 & D674 from Ston to the New Pelješac Bridge - Pelješki most

In this video you can drive along on the D414 and new D674 from Ston to the Pelješac Bridge, which was opened about 3 months ago.

With a price tag of almost $500 million, the 2404 meters long bridge connects mainland Croatia with the peninsula of Pelješac. Crossing a narrow sea channel, the bridge has a height of 98 meters and a clearance below of 55 meters.

This impressive piece of infrastructure was opened on July 26th 2022 and has effectively created a new corridor to the Southern tip of Croatia (Dubrovnik) without the need to cross through neighboring Bosnia-Herzegovina. Until this year, in order to reach the popular city of Dubrovnik, visitors had to cross through a short coastal region of BiH (Neum) and were held up by 2 border crossings.

Along with the massive new bridge, the D674 1 x 1 expressway was opened. Taking drivers from the touristic town of Ston to the town of Komarna. The entire project started construction in the summer of 2018 and was opened just 4 years later. Responsible for construction is the China Road and Bridge Corporation. Responsible for the bridge's design is Marjan Pipenbaher. The official price tag of the bridge was €420.3 million.

Unfortunately I missed the exit of the rest area to take a better look (possibly with a drone) at this impressive bridge. There wasn't really an opportunity to turn around after crossing the bridge without having to cross the bridge again (abiding by traffic rules). I can imagine that approaching the bridge from the Komarna side would be more impressive. On the Pelješac side it pops up out of nowhere and before you know you are on it, as the initial view when descending is blocked by excavated rock walls.
