I felt that this performance from my @womeninmusiccanada songwriter showcase was a perfect tribute to say good bye to my grandma 🕊️❤️‍🩹

The last time I had been with her, she leaned in and said to me “do you remember the song you wrote for grandpa and I for our 50th wedding anniversary? I still have it. It’s in my room, in a little box, by my dresser”

To which I responded “of course grandma! How could I forget. I still know every word”

I told her the whole story behind the song and how I wrote it and then I asked her if she wanted to hear me sing for her. She nodded yes, so I sang, and as I did, I saw a single tear stream down from her eyes. Which obviously made me ball my eyes out.

Then she grabbed my hand, almost knowing that her time was up and said “always remember”

And once again, I said, “of course grandma, how could I forget?”

These were some of the last words that she had said to me and it was the exact closure that I needed. I will always miss you, but I will never forget you.
