...Source: https://electrek.co/?p=456118 Transcript: According to Electrek, Germany’s largest industrial union, IG Metall, is accusing Tesla of running a toxic workplace at Gigafactory Berlin in Grünheide, saying employees are overworked and that even sick workers are pressured to come in—echoing past claims that managers have shown up at workers’ homes to push them back to work.

The showdown is intensifying just ahead of a high-stakes works council election running March 2–4, with about 11,000 employees eligible to vote. In the last vote in 2024, IG Metall won the biggest single share—39.4% and 16 of 39 seats—but still didn’t control the council.

IG Metall has now gone to court seeking an injunction over what it calls a false claim that a union member secretly recorded a works council meeting, and it’s asked prosecutors to investigate factory director André Thierig for defamation. This follows an incident where Tesla called police, and officers seized an IG Metall rep’s laptop.

All this lands as Tesla’s sales slide: Germany registrations down 48%, and January 2026 registrations down 44% across five major European markets. Electrek also reports Tesla cut about 1,700 Giga Berlin jobs over the past year, down to 10,703 workers.
