On October 15, 2024, the Supreme Court directed the West Bengal government to prevent the posting of civic volunteers in hospitals, police stations, and schools following the naming of Sanjay Roy as the prime accused in a case related to the rape and murder of a doctor. The Court also sought details of the recruitment process for civic volunteers. Additionally, the SC directs the West Bengal government not to post civic volunteers in specified locations until further orders.
