Enter Functional medicine……..1️⃣I have learned that to really evaluate the thyroid you need to look at ALL of the thyroid hormones AND search for any auto-antibodies! ⁣

2️⃣I learned that my diet and lifestyle was making a HUGELY NEGATIVE impact on ALL of my hormones: thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, insulin, etc. ⁣

3️⃣I learned that Synthroid, also known as levothyroxine, is only T4. T3 is the thyroid hormone that either makes you feel great or like crap. Many people cannot convert T4 to T3, so this is the reason Synthroid does not always alleviate symptoms. ⁣

4️⃣I learned that oral birth control is just a bandaid for the ROOT CAUSE of your hormone issues. It can lead to fertility issues and worsening hormone imbalance when it is stopped. ⁣

👩‍⚕️In my practice, I never base how well a treatment is working, or not working, solely on labs. The BIGGEST indicator for me is HOW THE PATIENT IS FEELING‼️⁣
📝I evaluate this with something called a Medical Symptom Questionnaire. This is a tool that lets me evaluate and trend a patient and her progress. ⁣
