Today we're playing a medley of jazz, hip-hop and brazilian music, recorded at the Jazztronauts' rehearsal space in Oakland.

Nardis - Miles Davis

Orris Root Powder - MF DOOM
Na Boca do Sol - Arthur Verocai

This medley plays with the ties between hip-hop and jazz, as two hip-hop beats by MF DOOM are bookended by the jazz songs they sample, respectively: "Raid" samples the jazz standard "Nardis", and "Orris Root Powder" samples the brazilian soul-jazz track "Na Boca do Sol". We slammed all these together, and added a jam section with an African-influenced 6/8 rhythm to bring a different energy into the last segment. Enjoy!
