Now to Switzerland, where former Gambian Interior Minister Ousman Sonko went on trial for crimes against humanity on Monday.
Sonko faces charges including murder, multiple rapes, and torture committed between 2000 to 2016.
Swiss campaign group TRIAL International filed the complaint against him after collecting evidence along with other NGOs, with the case going ahead under the principle of universal jurisdiction for grave crimes.
Nine Gambian plaintiffs will travel to the Swiss court to testify.
54 year-old Sonko fled to Switzerland in 2016, after Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh lost power.
According to the Human Rights Watch, Jammeh was responsible for "widespread abuses, including forced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings".
