The Birds often got overlooked by critics in the wake of its release, but over time it has come to be known as the icon of horror that it deserves to be. Underneath the initially cartoonish premise is a poignant and intriguing film that manages to utilise its premise in a thought-provoking way, creating an entry to the creature feature canon that elevates beyond mere spectacle and becomes an insightful comment on human nature and the judgement we bestow upon ourselves and one another.
