The main change in this view is the addition of green bollards between September 2014 and August 2016. (Since the green colour stands out more than black or white would, the change is more noticeable). There are also minor changes in road markings and in vegetation. Essentially, though, the character is unchanged and the condition appears to have been maintained.

This view is similar to key view 11 (KV11) in the Ashwell Conservation Area Character Statement published for NHDC in 2019

As many buildings in this street are Listed and lie within the Conservation Area only minimal changes would be expected.

In A Shell Guide to Hertfordshire (ISBN 0571118011), RM Healey writes "Ashwell's visual uniqueness has less to do with the buildings themselves, none of which is architeturally special, but more with their variety and uniform quality, and the way they, with other components of the landscape, group themselves, either by subtle design or divine accident, into a model townscape. Visats suddenly delight, ravish: the most urban High Street which dribbles into a country lane..."
