The Workhouse and Infirmary, National Trust, Southwell, Nottinghamshire Part 1.

Описание к видео The Workhouse and Infirmary, National Trust, Southwell, Nottinghamshire Part 1.

Built in 1824 as a place of last resort for the destitute, this rural workhouse was designed for around 160 'inmates'.
The workhouse ceased to exist from 1929 becoming a 'public assistance institution' and by the 1960's the infirmary looked after the 'elderly mentally infirm' until the last residents left in 1989.
It was a reflective, sad and through provoking visit but worth going to see.
