Decide whether or not to import new soil on the garden.
Create a level surface for the turf to be laid onto.
Whether or not to rotavate the existing soil.
How to ‘heel the ground in’.
When to apply fertiliser.

Key Points

Decide whether or not existing soil needs rotavating or new soil to be imported.
Rake the soil level with pathway.
‘Heel in the soil’ by lightly standing on the soil, rake one more and step on the soil. If a light footprint is apparent, the soil is ready for laying the turf.
Scatter fertiliser evenly on the soil before turf is laid.
