This is a special weekend for Kobe Bryant fans: A remembrance of the Los Angeles Lakers guard on his birthday (Aug. 23) and a celebration of the Hall of Famer on Kobe Bryant Day (Aug. 24), a nod to the numbers he wore — 8 and 24 — during his career.

In acknowledgement of the Lakers icon, Wesley Matthews — who played 15 years in the NBA — sat down with Andscape senior writer Jerry Bembry (director of the Eight on Eight documentary currently streaming on ESPN+) to explain the impact Bryant had on his recovery from an Achilles injury.
