On 21 October 2024 Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla shared a document stating the sell of Dharma Productions.

In the document it was mentioned that Karan Johar has sold 50% of his production company Dharma Production and Dharmatic Entertainment to Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India and Chairman of Poonawalla Fincorp, for Rs 1000CR.

That is, from now on Dharma Production and Dharmatic Entertainment will have two owners.

Karan Johar claims that the aim of this partnership is to make even better movies for the audience by using Content Creation, Distribution, and Advance Technology and take the Indian Entertainment Industry to the Global level.

But, if we talk about some movies and shows produced by Dharma Production, i.e. Karan Johar in the last one or two years, then most of their movies have either been average hits or flops.

Gehriyaan, Liger, Brahmastra, Govinda Naam Mera, Selfiee, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Kill, Yodha, Mr & Mrs Mahi, Bad Newz, Jigra.

Even the shows produced by them are in even worse condition than the films.

The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, Call Me Bae, The Tribe, Show Time, and Love Storiyaan.

If we talk about the revenue of Dharma Production, then in FY 2022-23, Dharma had a total revenue of Rs 1,044 crore, out of which the profit was only Rs 10.69 crore. So would it be wrong to say that Karan Johar is facing financial crisis?
