Introducing Phil Pearce, poet, writer and performer. Today he talks to Rubi from Isaac about his life in prison, drug addiction and how he came to find poetry within the system.

After a poetry workshop in prison, he wrote a poem come script for a play about the drug spice in prison, which he gave to prison workers to use in future care work with prisoner. After his release, he was asked to come back to watch the first production of his play by prisoners, the result being several months later the amount of positive drug test results decreased. Not only was it rolled out across several prisons, it led Phil on his journey to create more poetry that used his experiences to talk about tough issues such as drug addiction, knife crime and gang culture.
