Maasai Culture in Loliondo

Описание к видео Maasai Culture in Loliondo

This short video was devised and recorded by representatives of the Maasai community in Loliondo, Tanzania. It was created in just two days, as a fieldwork exercise for trainees in participatory video facilitation.

Five representatives from the local community were trained in facilitating participatory video alongside staff from UN Associations from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Following an intensive training workshop in Wasso (Loliondo) the trainee facilitators worked with three community groups comprised of women, youth and elders.

They facilitated three separate participatory video processes over the course of just two days, as a means to practice their new skills in the method. This video is the result of the fieldwork undertaken with the elders group and represents their collective decisions about what to present through video and what to document for the future.

The two other videos produced during the course of the fieldwork exercises are:

Womens Rights in Loliondo
   • Maasai Women's Rights in Loliondo, Ta...

Drought in Loliondo
   • Видео

This participatory video facilitation training was led by Gareth Benest and Jemimah Kerenge of InsightShare (www.insightshare.org). It was initiated and organised by Jenni Kaupppila from UNA Finland (who also joined the training) and made possible thanks to funding from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project was made possible thanks to the support and guidance and wisdom of the local Maasai organisation KIDUPO and the many small communities in Loliondo who took part.
