In a heartbreaking turn of events, the luxurious superyacht BAYESIAN has sunk following adverse weather conditions near Sicily. The celebratory trip aboard BAYESIAN took place shortly after its owner, Mike Lynch, was acquitted of fraud charges in the U.S. The yacht, a 180-foot marvel delivered by Perini Navi in 2008, sank suddenly near the Sicilian port of Porticello.

Mike Lynch, along with his daughter Hannah, were aboard the yacht. Other passengers included Jonathan Bloomer, Chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy, as well as attorney Christopher J. Morvillo and his wife Neda. BAYESIAN, previously named Salute, was known for its impressive design and performance. It had an internal volume of 473 GT and once boasted the tallest aluminium mast in the world. The yacht featured a beam of 11.51 meters, a draft of 9.73 meters, and was built with a teak deck, aluminium hull, and aluminium superstructure. Designed by Ron Holland Design and with interiors by Rémi Tessier, BAYESIAN was in the top 5% by LOA in the world. It was one of 31 sailing yachts in the 55-60m size range, with a cruising speed 1.28 knots above average and a top speed 1.05 knots above average. The yacht was sailing under the United Kingdom flag, the fourth most popular flag state for superyachts, with a total of 900 yachts registered.
