The Ice Age Trail: Turtle Rock Segment is a 5-mile point-to-point trail that follows the Wisconsin River and offers scenic views of the rock formations, forests, and wildlife. In this video, you’ll see some of the highlights of this trail and learn more about its history and features.

The trail starts at the Burma Road Trailhead and heads eastward along the river. You’ll pass by the Turtle Rock, a large boulder that resembles a turtle’s shell. This rock is one of the many glacial erratics that were left behind by the retreating ice sheets thousands of years ago. You’ll also see some of the Native American rock art that dates back to hundreds or thousands of years ago. These include symbols, animals, and human figures that were carved or painted on the rock outcroppings.

The trail then climbs up and down through the rolling terrain, crossing several streams and wetlands. You’ll enjoy the diverse habitats and vegetation, such as wetlands, oak woods, and jack pine thickets. You’ll also encounter a variety of wildlife, such as deer, turkeys, beavers, and birds. Along the way, you’ll find some of the backpack campsites that are available for overnight stays.

The trail ends at the County Road E Trailhead, where you can either turn back or continue on to the next segment of the Ice Age Trail. The Turtle Rock Segment is a moderate trail that requires some stamina and agility to navigate the rocky and uneven sections. P.S..Bring bug spray!!
 It’s a great trail for hiking, backpacking, camping, and exploring the natural and cultural heritage of Wisconsin.
