Nameri National Park is a national park in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas.
Nameri National Park in Assam, is one of the few national parks in India where you can trek on foot accompanied by a guide and a gunwielding forest guard. The evening we arrived in Nameri, thunder showers greeted us. If it is raining, there are no treks we were told. Next morning was clear sky. Here we are off to the forest office to buy the tickets.
We get into a forest jeep to reach the river front from where a row boat will take us to the park.

Nameri shares its northern boundary with the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh. Together they constitute an area of over 1,000 km2
Nameri National Park harbours over 600 floral species.
Nameri National Park provides habitat for Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, clouded leopard, marbled cat, leopard cat, hog deer, sambar, dhole, gaur, barking deer, wild boar, sloth bear, Himalayan black bear, capped langur and Indian giant squirrel. The white winged wood duck, great pied hornbill, wreathed hornbill, rufous necked hornbill, black stork, ibisbill, blue-bearded bee-eaters, babblers, plovers and many other birds are also present.
Nameri is well-known for its diverse avifauna, esp the White-winged Wood Duck,
In 2005, 374 bird species were recorded in Nameri National Park.
The scenic landscape of the park attracts lots of tourists. Rafting on the River Jia-bhoroli against the backdrop of high hills with snow-clad caps in the eastern Himalayas deserves a special mention.
