"The 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded on Thursday to Peruvian writer and a former presidential candidate.

The acclaimed author previously won the Cervantes Prize in 1995, which is viewed as the highest literary honor in the Spanish-speaking world. Vargas Llosa has written over 30 novels, plays and essays. He is the author of: ""Conversation in the Cathedral"" and ""The Green House"". The 74-year old writer has been long-mentioned as a potential Nobel choice.

Vargas Llosa is also known for ruffling the feathers of Latin American leaders like Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Cuba's Fidel Castro.

The Swedish Academy noted his gift for artfully mapping political divides.

Vargas Llosa is currently teaching at Princeton University in New Jersey."
