Caraballo Band Live at the Kildonan Hotel 1976

These songs are a tribute to Hannibal Mark the founder of Caraballo and remembrance of David Rollock (Barbados )one of the nicest men, I have met and played with. He was a solid rhythm Guitarist and bass player who loved singing backup vocals. His love and passion for music, literally took him to the grave , may his soul RIEP. Most of all I would like to honour Hannibal Mark (Trinidad) for putting together this amazing Caribbean dance and fun band. Thank you for having me be a part of the band. Mark played bass then later moved on to the Saxophone, he also sang and did backups .
Mickey Maharajh, (Trinidad) mister Santana himself. He was one of the nicest and best lead guitar players in the world that I had the honour and pleasure playing with. If you doubt me, check out his solos on Play That Funky Music, by Wild Cherry, Hotel California by The Eagles and Samba Patti by Santana. There was Peter Carasquero (Trinidad) who was the original drummer who slowly retired , giving me the opportunity to play with him for awhile, he was a solid drummer and fun person, who is still one of my best friends to this day.
There was Mal Maharajh who joined the band in 1977, he was the Keyboard player.
Bobby J Hobson from the very beautiful, friendly and musical Island of StKitts (SKN Federation). I was the original drummer and one of the lead vocalist for Ellie Matt and the GI’s Brass.
Most of all, I would thank all of our friends and fans, including my dentist today, who was a fan back in his university days. Thank you for your support and acceptance of our music in this City Of Winnipeg, Manitoba back in the 60’s , 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
For those of you who are still alive and remember our band , sit back , relax and reminisce about one of those weekend evenings , when you would be out dancing with your significant other back in the 70’s , at the Norvilla, Kildonan, Grant, Curtis, Montcalm , Assiniboine or Airline Hotels, where we frequently played for 51 weeks out of a year in 1976 and 1977
Those were truly good, fun and enjoyable times.
I hope you would enjoy these songs which were taped on a portable cassette player and recorder. I
Managed to salvage the old shattered tapes and get you these memories.
Much Love
Bobby J Hobson
