The Wolf–Rayet Star WR102

Описание к видео The Wolf–Rayet Star WR102

This is the nebula surrounding the star WR102 🌟, a Wolf–Rayet star about 10,000 light years away in our galaxy. Isn't it beautiful?!

Wolf–Rayet stars are the end stages of very massive stars (much bigger than our Sun). Strong stellar winds have blown away the outer hydrogen layers, revealing the star's innards, and creating a beautiful nebula that we see here being lit up from the inside. WR102 is an extremely rare WO-type of Wolf–Rayet star – it's extremely luminous (100,000 times luminosity of our Sun) and very hot

Models predict it's in the very final stages before exploding as a supernova, most likely within 1,500 years.
