What you will need:
Wood slice
Drill- I used a 3/16 size drill bit
Paint brush (use a size that will fit your pinecone)
Small pinecones
Loppers- makes cutting the pinecones easier!

Dark green/light green acrylic paint
Fake leaves and greenery (can be found at the dollar store or craft stores like Hobby Lobby!)

Craft Steps:
1. Drill hole near the top of your wood slice ornament: 00:14
2. Cut pinecones in half with loppers: 00:20
3. Paint pinecones with dark red paint: 1:11
4. Paint highlight layer on primary petals: 1:40
5. Paint bright red layer on highlighted petals: 1:58
6. Paint center of pinecone flower with dark/light green: 2:14
7. Glue leaves and flower to wood slice: 2:41
8. Glue other decorations as needed: 2:59
9. Use ModPodge to attach small gold beads: 3:36
10. Add ribbon or twine to hang: 3:57

In this video learn how to take pinecones and turn them into pinecone flower wood slice ornaments. They aren't the exact shape of a poinsettia but to make them festive I painted them bright red. You could paint your pinecone flowers whatever colors you want though, don't forget to make them your own! Hang them with ribbon for Christmas or use twine for a rustic theme. You could also leave the pinecone halves unpainted to give them a more natural look. Don't forget to use loppers to cut the pinecones in half because hand held cutters are much harder to cut through the woody center! To glue the pinecones you may want to use e6000 glue for an extra strong hold, however we haven't had any issues with hot glue.
These ornaments make great Christmas gifts for friends and family.
