As Pakistan government continues to mull to ban Imran Khan led PTI, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday warned the opposition party against peddling the smear campaign targeting the country’s institutions. In his remarks at the cabinet meeting, Sharif called PTI as perpetrators of the May 9 violence and said they have resorted to new tactics to malign the country and its armed forces, even running a campaign against it. “We will not tolerate any such steps against the country, its innocent people, and its armed forces,” Sharif was quoted as saying by local media portals. The comments come days after Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry echoed a similar view and said the nation needs to stand up against militants and ‘digital terrorists’. Former PM Khan’s PTI has been facing massive crackdown despite the jailed leader winning a series of legal cases brought against him since he was ousted from power in 2022. Recently, authorities raided PTI digital wing offices and arrested their information secretary Raoof Hasan over allegation of PTI being involved in propaganda against the country. Khan’s party however denies the accusation.
