Official Baseball Rule 6.02(c)(9) allows umpires to issue warnings at any time during the game if "circumstances warrant," which includes the situation of an accidental or unintentional hit-by-pitch wherein the umpires believe that issuance of warnings could help prevent a bean ball war, retaliation, or other misconduct.
