Sooo.. some of the most heavily armed security that I've ever seen (in person) work the entrances of these places. I stopped to talk with them to get a more "official" idea of how close I would be allowed to fly and not end up in jail, or end up with my drone shot out of the sky.

Trust me, I wanted to fly between those stacks and look down and around.. but you don't want to mess around here with these guys, and this isn't even a Nuclear plant!

Forget about side-arms and machine guns at their ready -- without being specific, they have technology that is very "surface to air" like and capable of taking action without much fuss. They made it clear that my phantom could be "Taken out from any altitude and at any speed". I forget what branch of protection they are.. something Homeland Security or Anti-Terrorism at the federal level.

After some discussion, they made it clear where they'd take action on a perceived threat.. so basically, 1/4 mile+ away from the grid, railroad area, and plant was decided as reasonable.

Even the manatee viewing area is strictly a no-fly zone (which is on the other side from where I parked to fly as seen in this video).

The Big Bend Power station is a coal burning plant owned and operated by TECO (Tampa Electric Company):
