MOLASSES BARS (pg 589)
Sift 1/3c powdered sugar
Beat until soft 1/3c butter
Add sugar gradually. Blend these ingredients until they are very light and creamy.
Beat in 1 egg
1/3c molasses
1/8tsp salt
1/8tsp soda
Add 7/8c flour in 3 parts to the butter mixture.
Stir in 1tsp vanilla
Fold in 1c broken nut meats
Bake the batter in a greased 8 x 8 pan at 375 for about 15 minutes. Cut the cake into bars before it is cold. Roll bars in powdered sugar.

BACON CORNMEAL WAFFLES (pg 192)
Beat slightly 2 eggs
Add 1 3/4c milk
Sift 1c cake flour
4tsp baking powder
1Tbsp sugar
1/2tsp salt
Add 1c yellow corn meal
Combine these ingredients with the eggs and milk
Add 5Tbsp melted bacon fat or other shortening
Cut into halves or quarters 6 to 12 slices bacon
Heat a waffle iron. Place a piece of bacon on each section and pour the batter over them. Cook the waffles until they are crisp.

BAKED RHUBARB (pg 396)
Place in a buttered baking dish alternate layers of sliced rhubarb and sugar
Have a layer of sugar on top. Use about half as much sugar as there is fruit.
Dot layers with butter. Sprinkle with lemon rind or cinnamon. Bake at 300 until rhubarb is red.
