Kortirion Among the Trees is one of my favourite poems in the Tolkien legendarium. The Book of Lost Tales, a collection of stories that constitute the earliest version of The Silmarillion, tells of the elven city of Kortirion on the island of Tol Eressëa. There are many versions of the 'Kortirion' poem, but this one is my favourite. I especially adore these lines:

Old shadows linger in thine ancient gate,
Thy robe is grey, thine old heart now is still;
~
Green was their armour, green their helms,
The Lords and Kings of all thy trees.
