W166 X166 GLE/GLS/ML/GL 3 to 12 COLOR AMBIENT LIGHT UPGRADE

Low level technical how-to video for upgrading your current 3 color ambient lighting in the w166/x166 Mercedes-Benz models to 12 color palette on factory COMAND unit.

**UPDATE**

This kit is no longer available through the mentioned vendor. However, there are many kits available through other vendors. The kit I installed required tapping into the CAN Bus at the passenger kick panel and fuse box to power the dash and footwell lighting. Other kits require the addition of pins to the A pillar-to-passenger door connector in order to use the door module to power the aforementioned lights.


Please keep in mind that additional coding is required in order to unlock the 12 color options in the factory COMAND unit. The OBD2 module can be purchased from many vendors and is reusable to not only code this feature but many others on many other models. I will be posting a separate video explaining the process as it can be tedious. Alternatively, an independent specialist may be able to code your vehicle.
