Thoothukudi is gangster film set in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.The Song composing and Background score is done by Praveen Mani.The movie is about the good-hearted Maha (Harikumar), who ends up in jail for bashing a dishonest cop who demands bribe. In the prison, he comes across Lingam (Rahman), a dreaded gangster. They develop difference of opinions and end up fighting each other. Their enmity continues even outside the prison. Eventually Lingam inflicts bleeding injuries on Maha, who pleads for mercy.

Lingam rushes Maha to hospital. Maha recovers and develops an affinity towards Lingam. They become thick friends and Maha joins Lingam as his henchman.
Maha resolves to bump off Katathurai, another gangster who threatens to kill Lingam. The rest is all but how he achieves his mission and also put to right the dishonest policemen.Packed with violence all through, the scenes involving Karthika are the major relief. She romances Harikumar.

Music by Pravin Mani is worth a mention for the background score is peppy and sustains the tempo in the movie.

Jeevan's cinematography and Sai Suresh's editing are other major highlights.

The director has managed to bring alive the reality and resonance of the town the film takes its name after.

Had Thoothukudi released before the likes of Pattiyal and Naalai, it could have made a difference.
