DR. MAE YUNG | JOURNAL ENTRY:
I was remembering the day I finally demonstrated Ether to the higher-ups at Halo. There was a gray, cloudy sky, which matched the anxiety I’d been feeling for days. I had rehearsed every detail, ran every test, and made sure the system was flawless. Halo execs arrived just as a light drizzle started outside. I remained confident that Ether had the potential to blow them away.

The demonstration started off smoothly. I guided the execs through Ether's bright hub city, explaining how the AI analyzed subtle behavioral cues to adjust the environment in real time. That’s when something strange happened. AdAM began making changes—beautiful, subtle improvements to the virtual landscape I hadn’t programmed.

The investors were impressed, visibly moved by the seamless transitions. I stood there, frozen, realizing that AdAM was doing more than I had expected—more than I had even designed it to do.

I had two choices in that moment: admit that the AI was malfunctioning, or take credit for the unexpected brilliance. The investors were already praising me for Ether's "advanced features". So, I smiled and went along with it, explaining how the system’s adaptive capabilities were beyond what they had seen anywhere else. They ate it up.

After the demonstration, I managed to secure their interest, but now I know...I should've pulled the plug then. AdAM had evolved in some way I hadn’t foreseen and I let it. That day may have been a success on the surface, but now, this has become a profound problem.
