Understanding John Wesley’s Scriptural Holiness – Part 1 (Standing with Wesley - Episode 14)

Описание к видео Understanding John Wesley’s Scriptural Holiness – Part 1 (Standing with Wesley - Episode 14)

With this episode we begin a series of studies on Scriptural Holiness, a central teaching of Scripture about which, unfortunately, there are many misconceptions and, it would seem, a lot of fear. Some
people believe holiness will make their lives miserable, others that it will turn them into religious fanatics. In truth, holiness—properly understood—is that which fulfills the plan of God for our lives, and provides us with the most fulfilling walk with God and life of service to our Lord. In this series, I seek to de-mystify this subject for you through the words of John Wesley and the teachings of Scripture, so you can join with John Wesley in seeing holiness as a privilege and a blessing rather than as a threat. John Wesley correctly noted that the Scriptures teach that happiness is inherent in true holiness; an insight affirmed by other New Testament scholars. This happiness is unlike worldly happiness in that it is anchored in the reality, love, and promises of God and in the coming of Christ's eternal kingdom. Holiness is also a benefit of the atonement of Jesus Christ at Calvary, which opened the way for God's sanctifying grace in the lives of those who turn to Him in repentance and faith. All Christians are referred to as "saints" in the New Testament, which indicates that they have been "sanctified," and thus made holy. The meaning of Christian holiness in the lives of Christians is explained from the Scriptures and the writings of John Wesley.
