It's extremely difficult to pull this off with lower specs Mirage and Gleipnir. If they don't have enough firepower the NPCs will be wiped out once the cosmos arrive, and even if they manage to survive, the second wave of type 2 drones with the imperial ones will waste them.

It's crucial to get further back in the last wave of type 2 drones shows up, as you can't be even remotely in their range and a single attack of a imperial one can wipe you out. If the cavalry arrives shortly it can be done, but you still need to be active because you need as many NPCs alive as possible to bring down the 2 transports and avoid the tadpoles.
Gleipnir is very efficient against drones but nor so much against tadpoles. Remember the Mirage has a small window for aiming and wandering drones can kill you in a snap, and they will be dangerous to kill since you'll be wasting resources from the main action area.
