DIRECTOR’S NOTE:

“I drew the plot of this video from memories of three different conflicts I had with three different friends at three different times in my life. Blended together, they became the 1996 East Village queer kids of ‘Bad Friend.’

“What I find most intriguing about the result is that there isn't really a ‘bad’ friend between them. The two characters’ big mistake is not talking to each other openly and honestly about what they were feeling when they were feeling it. That left room for negative fantasies about the other to fill their minds. Then a minor conflict escalates into a huge crisis with tragic results.

“I do love seeing where these two characters find each other 25 years later and the laughs they can now share. I hope watching the video gives people hope, and if they have any conflicts with a dear friend brewing, that they take a deep breath, talk to each other about it, then go dancing.” - Stephen Winter
