Meet Martin O'Donoghue, he works with Let's Play Cork.

Over the last two years, Martin and his team have been working with six other European cities learning how play can be used in a serious way to make our city a greener, healthy and more fun place to live.

During this time, they learned about what other cities are doing to incorporate games and fun into areas and places where you wouldn’t normally expect them.

For example, in France many cities have toy libraries. In Cork, we don’t have any toy libraries but next year with the 10 libraries of cork city they will start a toy collection. So in addition to borrowing books you can get games and Lego and there will also be play bags that your community can use to host a play event.

This summer when none of us could to playgrounds, Martin and his team put together play packs so that families could play still together at home.

Imagine turning your back garden into a lava field with a super fun video and some chalk. And there are loads of other magically fun videos on the Let’s Play Cork YouTube Channel.

Another video shows how you can make your own mini theatre. You can cast your favourite toys and teddys and make your own at home pantomime!

Next year, there will be a whole series of play events and Let’s Play Cork want you to join in. Until then, Martin and his team will be putting together a play pack for older adults.
