I don't often tell you details about my full-time job but I have one anyway. I work as a TV news photographer for one of the major network affiliates in Salt Lake City. So I use a really good ENG or "Electronic News Gathering" video camera five days a week. The camera has a super accurate time code generator built into it. Time Code is essential for professional-level video cameras. And an accurate time code generator is also a must. But this camera's internal timekeeping is exceptionally accurate and I'm impressed by that.

For most folks, a camera like this is just far too expensive and it's overkill for the things you'll want to do with a video camera. But it has a lot of functions and features which are tailor-made for the kinds of photography and general situations that a TV news photographer will encounter. This particular model is a Sony PXW-X400 with a manual focus lens. It works great in low light conditions due to its large image sensors. It's very forgiving when it comes to audio. Overall, it's a great workhorse for my line of work. Its maximum resolution is "HD" at 1920 by 1080, because that's the broadcast standard we use at our TV station. If I recorded things in a higher resolution then I'd spend a lot of time down-converting that stuff anyway, so there is generally no need for formats like 4K in my line of work. However, we DO have some 4K cameras for special projects. And, certainly, there are times when a GoPro Camera, a drone or even a good smart phone CAN be the best camera to use.
