Wholesale Rates vs Retail rates in the Bay Area - Mortgage Rates Spike - Mortgage Industry Blood Bath Continues Fresh Home Loan

Another intense week in the mortgage industry. Rates shot up above 6% this week where the last day of August was the worst day for rates in both August and July.
A lot of this is due to labor reports being positive, including the BLS jobs report and the household survey showing 442K job creations but 80% of those jobs were for 16 to 19 years old’s.
More layoffs and shutdowns in the Mortgage industry with AmeriSave who earlier this year was one of the rate leaders in wholesale have left wholesale altogether. Homepoint Financial is laying off 50% of its staff.

The National average for a conforming loan is 6.02 % down from 6.23% just yesterday
Our base price is 4.99 – now remember there are pricing adds to mortgage and this is not an apples-to-apples comparison, this is for a rate term refi, 65% loan to value, 740 credit score, 642K loan amount. Basically a “base price” on a lenders rate sheet. It does show wholesale rates and quite a bit lower than the National Average
