President Joe Biden revived a tradition started by the Clinton administration by celebrating Eid Al-Fitr at the White House.

On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Joe Biden and a hundred guests of the Muslim faith gathered to celebrate together this holiday which marks the end of the month of Ramadan.
Established by the Clinton administration, this tradition had not been maintained by Donald Trump, who had favored the publication of declarations for the attention of Muslim citizens, writing in particular in 2020, "we hope that they will find both comfort and strength in the healing powers of prayer and devotion”.
Donald Trump had perpetuated a tradition dating from 1805, by organizing an ftour at the White House on May 6, 2018, and by inviting around fifty guests, including the Ambassador of Morocco, Lalla Joumala El Alaoui, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Prince Khalid Bin Salman, as well as Dina Kawar, Ambassador of Jordan.
“We must recognize that there is still a lot of work to be done, abroad and here at home. Muslims make our nation stronger every day, even though they still face real challenges and threats in our society, including targeted violence and Islamophobia,” he continued.

In his speech, Joe Biden also recalled having appointed the first Muslim woman to the federal bench as part of a commitment to build an administration that values ​​diversity and “looks like America”.

Jill Biden, the first lady, also sent a message much applauded by the participants in this gathering by declaring that this celebration embodies above all “a joy born of love. Love for our families and for our communities, and for this community”.

The speech by Joe Biden and his wife was praised by Talib Shareef, imam of the Muhammad Mosque in Washington, also called "the mosque of the nation".
Following the statements of the President of the United States, the imam explained that "to be welcomed here is an important statement for our nation and for the world", applauding in passing that Islam is "a welcome part of our nation with all other religious traditions” and welcoming the fact that “the highest office in this country (is) committed to the fundamental values ​​of our nation and the laws protecting religious freedom”.

Joe Biden a par ailleurs rappelé avoir nommé la première femme musulmane à la magistrature fédérale
