The primary advantage of the black reflection technique (more accurately, reflection compositing) for suppressing gradients is it is infinitely flexible. You can suppress as much or as little of the gradient as you like, and bring back as much or as little detail of the background and subject as you want. And you can see the outcomes of each change you make instantly for more accurate editing. Plus, since layer-based editing is nondestructive, all the information in the original image is still there, and you can access and apply it anytime to your editing process. Let's dig deeper into it. Note that it is suppression, not removal.
