At the launch of Digital Health Sans Borders, Mr. Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India Bhashini Division (BHASHINI), Digital India Corporation, MeitY, Govt. of India; Director (Addl Charge), India Dataset Platform (AIkosh) and Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI (An initiative of MeitY), Govt. of India shares how multilingual AI is becoming central to creating borderless digital healthcare. He explains how language should not be a barrier for patients or doctors anywhere in the world, and how India’s BHASHINI initiative is addressing this challenge through automatic speech recognition, text-to-text translation, text-to-speech, and machine-readable health content.

He highlights real use cases already transforming healthcare — multilingual consultations on eSanjeevani, AI-generated discharge reports, automated recording of patient–doctor interactions for EHRs, and voice-based health information tools like Audiopedia for communities on the other side of the literacy divide.

Mr. Nag also discusses how voice technologies are improving frontline systems such as birth data recording and how these advancements support doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and the entire care ecosystem. This address underlines how translation and language AI, once seen as a small value addition, have now moved to the center stage of global digital health.
