The Grade II listed Crawshaw Woods bridge off Manston Lane, in east Leeds, has been removed temporarily from its position over the mainline as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. The structure was the oldest cast iron bridge still in situ over a live railway, but needed to be changed significantly to allow the wires needed to power electric trains to pass beneath. It will now be refurbished and the abutments will be raised by 1.5 metres before it is lifted back into place in March 2026. It was built in the 1830s and carried traffic to the Barnbow Munitions Factory during the war. #train #engineering #transpennineexpress #construction #railwaystructure #trainspotting #trainspotters #railway #railwayinfrastructure
