Mid-century modern record player cabinet with hideaway speaker doors - DIY Build

Описание к видео Mid-century modern record player cabinet with hideaway speaker doors - DIY Build

This record player cabinet was the second of two pieces I designed and built for a client. The first was a matching sideboard console which you'll find a build video for on my channel.

Built out of 18mm blackbutt veneered birch plywood (natural feature grade), this piece features hardwood edge banding, mitred corners, drawers, and rattan sliding doors that slide away to reveal the speakers. The whole thing was finished with hardwax oil.

We were in the middle of yet another lockdown during most of this build, and so for the bearings that I was going to use to slide the doors down their tracks, I had to use what I had lying around which meant milling these pieces out of brass (yes, on a wood lathe). They turned out not 100% perfect - but the customer was still very happy with it in the end and that's all that really matters.

There were magnets I inset in top of each door, and I secured a magnet inside each speaker box in the top corner that holds the doors shut. Lastly, I had planned on gluing in something over the top of the rattan edges on the inside of the doors but the customer collected it before I had a chance to do that - but again, they were happy enough with how it looked and said they would be closed the majority of the time anyway.
