The Re:Think Essay Competition is dedicated to nurturing critical thinking and encouraging the exploration of a wide array of thought-provoking and, at times, controversial topics. In 2024, Re:Think underscores the pivotal role that discourse, debate, and critical analysis play in addressing complex societal challenges.

This year, CCIR received over 4,200 submissions from students representing more than 50 countries. From these entries, our distinguished jury panel—comprising scholars from both sides of the Atlantic—selected approximately 350 students for Honourable Mention, with 33 ultimately being recognised as award winners.

In this video, we interview Carson Park, a Bronze Award recipient from Seoul International School in South Korea. His award-winning essay, titled "Discuss the Conflict of Sustainability, Agriculture, and Human Health," delves into the conflict between sustainability, agriculture, and human health, challenging the common belief that urban areas are the primary drivers of environmental degradation. He highlights agriculture, particularly meat production, as the second-largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and a major source of health issues. The essay argues that the pursuit of agricultural productivity often prioritises profit over environmental and human health, exacerbating pandemics and environmental destruction. It concludes by suggesting cultured meat as a potential solution to address both sustainability and health concerns.
