Associate Professors tend to have tenure at most institutions. Often, you get tenure and promotion when you become an associate professor. This means that the university has hired you on full-time to represent the university, and you have a life-long contract with the university.
An associate professor comes after you are an assistant professor, and it is the rank before you become a full professor.
At some universities, you don’t have tenure when you are an associate professor. If you are hired on to a university, sometimes you are hired without tenure for a year or two until you have proven yourself to the university.
Do associate professors take graduate students? Absolutely, you are working with graduate students from when you become a professor and on wards. However, for the first few years as an assistant professor, you might work on your own work before you work with others.
I would reach out to different associate professors and see if they take graduate students. Some professors do and some professors don’t - it’s more of their style and what they are doing with their life.
Often, you can become an associate professor for a very long time, and moving up in your rank, just means you have made a significant contribution to research. How long is one an associate professor? Most associate professorships last somewhere between 5-15 years, depending on the institution.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
