5000/5100 - I could not ride one as they have all been replaced

5200 - These are being replaced and are not many left. These have nice DC motors.

5300/5400 - These mainly run on route D. These have AC motors powered by inverters that generated a set number of frequencies (meaning nice motor sounds).

5500/5600 - The most common type of metro train. These have AC motors powered by inverters that generated fully variable frequency.


Also in Rotterdam there are trams. There are some old trams which have all had their motors replaced. Some of them still have their nice retro original inteirers, while others have been refurbished.

There are also 2 types of Citadis tram. the differences between them are... The 1st type has plastic seats while the 2nd type has soft seats. and The 1st type powers it's motors by generating a set number of frequencies (you can hear networker sounds), while the second type generates fully variable frequency.



At The Hague there are some more trams, but I did not have the right ticket to ride them. The ticketing system is very confusing and limited for tourists. They have made ticketing for residents very easy using an RFID system. but this is not an option for tourists as the "chipcard" itself cost €7. So tourists have to choose between a very limited number of normal ticket options. The ticket options are mainly single and return tickets but their is an all day ticket for the metro and Rotterdam's trams but not The Hague's trams.

The RFID system is not just for the "chipcard"s, but surprisingly every disposable ticket contains an RFID chip! (I would have thought the production costs would have been too much)
