Germany, who had won the first leg 2-1, started strongly and earned an early lead with a 30th-minute penalty by Joshua Kimmich. Shortly after, Kimmich quickly took a corner that caught the Italian defense and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma off guard, allowing Jamal Musiala to score Germany's second goal in the 36th minute. The Italian team was still regrouping when 15-year-old debutant ballboy Noel Urbaniack rapidly returned the ball for Kimmich’s corner. After the game, Urbaniack received a ball signed by the German team for his crucial role.
Tim Kleindienst delivered a third goal just before halftime with a close-range header from another Kimmich assist, capitalizing on another defensive lapse by Italy.
