Light. Space. Two words which can be used to imply myriad elements. The pieces selected for this concert represent some meaning of one term or the other, whether literal, figurative, physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional. It has been left to you, the listener, to interpret which form of the word best applies to each song.
This particular concert includes a visual component in addition to the aural element, thanks to a collaboration with the students in Professor Billy Friebele’s Contemporary Digital Art class. The students were provided reference recordings of the concert repertoire, and tasked with creating a digital representation of their interpretation of a song of their choosing. The resulting video images will be shown while the ensemble performs the related piece. Please note that the animations and video treatments are brief and looped for the duration of the song.
The performance order for this evening was determined both by the content of the selections and also by the hour of concert, itself.
