Congressional Hearing On The Future Of Space Exploration

The House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Space held a hearing to examine the development of the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft, which are integral to NASA's future space exploration plans. The projects would help facilitate human exploration of the moon, asteroids, and eventually Mars, and would also be capable of making trips to the International Space Station (ISS). NASA Associate Administrator William Gerstenmaier and former astronaut and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Executive Director Sandra Magnus provided testimony on the status of the projects and what the planned missions hope to achieve. The witnesses stressed that the goals of returning to the moon and exploring Mars are not mutually exclusive. They maintained that the technologies would build upon each other and lead the way for future commercial investments in space.
